It’s always hard trying to decide on what to watch, especially with the overwhelmingly large selection available these days.
Sometimes I will end up using all my alotted relaxation time just browsing through various trailers and reading hundreds of abstracts, and then when I have finally made a decision- I need to get off the couch and get on with my life!
I am also one of those people who watches ALL the genres of entertainment there is(except horror), based on my mood. Hence, I like keeping a whole range of options ready at the back of my mind for my ever-changing preferences.
Anyway, since I have had an extremely long vacation back home, I have discovered so many gems and I thought to share my top 7 with you.
Do tell me if you like them, I love discussing TV shows, it gives me a lot of happiness.
P.S. Click on the images of the shows below to get directed to the trailers, added for your convenience of course!
Genre: Science Fiction
Quick Abstract: A collection of stories which examine modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. -Wikipedia
My Thoughts: I’m not going to lie, I do end up in a weird state of mind after watching this show. I am usually in shock, scared, or just plain baffled. However, it’s kind of nice because it opens my mind to these concepts I have never even imagined before. I just adore the creativity behind all the storylines.
Rick and Morty
Genre: Adult Cartoon, American Sitcom, Science Fiction, Black Comedy
Quick Abstract: The series follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his fretful, easily influenced grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures. -Wikipedia
My Thoughts: Absolutely hilarious! Feels weirdly nice to be watching cartoons again. Again, super weird and creative storylines of some graphic nature, however since it’s a cartoon, it has a less “heavy” feeling to it in comparison to Black Mirror.
Big Little Lies
Genre: Psychological Fiction, Mystery
Quick Abstract: All three of them have their own problems: Madeline is resentful that her daughter from her previous marriage is growing close to her ex-husband’s new wife, Bonnie; Celeste is physically abused by her rich banker husband, Perry; and Jane was raped and left to raise her son Ziggy on her own. -Wikipedia
My Thoughts: As per usual, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon did not fail to please. Great acting, lovely cinematography, and a very emotional journey! I finished the first season in 3 days with my sister.
Genre: Drama, Mystery
Quick Abstract: After a teenager was murdered within the town of Riverdale, a group of teenagers, The jock Archie, the girl next door Betty, the new girl Veronica and the outcast Jughead try to unravel the evils lurking within this seemingly innocent town. -Wikipedia
My Thoughts: I was a big fan of the comics all throughout high school, so when this TV show came out, I had to watch it. It’s very different from the comics, no doubt, but still has a different mysterious appeal to it of its own. It’s great seeing familiar cartoon characters turn into “real life” characters, and I especially love the fact that the whole cast is constantly shooting in Vancouver.
Quick Abstract: This sitcom follows the lives of Jay Pritchett and his family, all of whom live in suburban Los Angeles. Pritchett’s family includes his second wife, her son and his stepson, as well as his two adult children and their spouses and children. -Wikipedia
My Thoughts: I cry laughing when I watch this show. So entertaining and great to watch with the whole family! Sometimes you just need some light-hearted humor to watch over dinner, this is one of them.
Genre: Historical period drama
Quick Abstract: This is the biographical story about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The first season covers the period from her marriage to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1947 to the disintegration of her sister Princess Margaret’s engagement to Peter Townsend in 1955. -Wikipedia
My Thoughts: I learned so much about the royal family from this show. I was exposed to so many sides of royalty I had no idea even existed. I love the fact that this series is mainly focused on a person who is still living, as opposed to a memoir about someone of the past- a truly different concept!
People vs OJ Simpson
Genre: True crime
Quick Abstract: There are few truly unifying events in American life. When something happens that makes the entire country stop and take notice, we remember it forever. Everybody remembers where they were when O.J. Simpson, riding in a white Bronco, led the police on a low-speed chase all over Los Angeles. This marked the emergence of the 24-hour news cycle and the birth of reality television. -Fox
My Thoughts: Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The true verbiage of the real trial is used throughout the series, making it all seem all the more real. Quite the thought rendering watch!
Well, that’s all for now folks!
Happy TV times.
